In the early 90s, Henry Grahn Hermunen evaluated how to explain complex connected structures in the most primary minimalistic way, relating only two symbols, the circle and square. Add movement and spin to these symbols, and they become/are equivalent; at the same time, they are opposite, representing (+) and (-). This binary system might be extended with another dimension to become a sphere and a cube, also in movement. A metaphor for a possible extensive language, with no limits.
Come 2023 and Grahn Hermunen is joined by Swedish poet and writer Rikard Larsson. Coming from a different background, Larsson brought new layers to the forms of circles and squares: text, words, and syllables, and a sense of mistrust regarding perception. The resulting appeal urges you to question what you know, to expect what is not expected, and thus connect to that which was previously unconnectable.

Henry Grahn Hermunen and Rikard Larsson have been friends for 30 years and wanted to celebrate that through this artwork. They integrated Japanese, English, Finnish, French, Latin and the Swedish languages with Braille in a squarish form. The “particle” dots are not a coincidence, and they suggest Braille to be the universal way to write for us all until we can connect in other necessary ways.
