Inspired by basic elements encountered within botany, biology, and other fields, this rudimentary configuration hints upon a few universal themes for the living, including whether they are conscious or unconscious, open or closed, or have a beginning or end. This work, titled 紫, the Chinese character for “purple,” is an attempt to reduce intricate concepts of change, growth, and development into a lucid visual equation of pure essence. Each embryonic symbol is mirrored by three lines: one articulates potential motion, another represents the past, present, and future, and the other conveys good fortune. The peaceful lavender hue is adopted for its associations with mystery, spirituality, and enlightenment.
